Home and Happy

After two rounds of blood work, lab cultures, a catheter for urine tests, IV antibiotics for four days, a spinal tap, an MRI, an EEG, and two neurological exams; the doctors finally concluded that Nate is okay. They think his episode was what they call "Sandifer Syndrome". Basically, babies that have really bad reflux can react to it by behaving the same way babies behave when they are having seizures. They can't say for certain he didn't have a seizure, but they said most likely it was just the reflux. We were able to come home Monday night with a clean bill of health. I had an appointment with the lactation consultant today and she had a few ideas about positioning him during feeds that might help reduce some of his reflux. Nate also started taking Pepcid in the hospital instead of Zantac. At his follow-up yesterday the pediatrician said if he doesn't do any better with that by next week we can switch him to Prevacid. It sounds like Prevacid is the most effective, but because the medical community has the least research on its use in children, they start with the other two meds first. So, we will see how he does, but we are happy he is home and thankful there is nothing seriously wrong with him. Thank you all for the thoughts and prayers.
