My friends in the DC area hosted a baby shower for me March 20th and I am really bad and just getting to blogging about it now. My friends from grad school put in a lot of effort and thought of so many little details. They made the party a bedtime stories theme which was really cute. Heather hosted the party at her house. Jennifer and Laura handcrafted all the invitations complete with an original poem requesting people bring a book inscribed with a message instead of a card. That was a fabulous idea since now we have more books in our library plus we will always have warm thoughts of our friends when we are reading stories with the baby. Marci took charge of organizing games including one that you had to guess baby items in bags and one that you had to name the titles and authors of children's books given an excerpt. John and I actually won the book game! Jennifer made these amazing sheep out of cake and chocolate to go along with the bedtime theme. The amount of effort everyone put in was amazing. They even made Italian food since they know it is my favorite. I feel so blessed to have such amazing friends. It was like a mini grad school reunion with our friend Allison flying in from Texas, Kristine and Scott driving up from southern Maryland with their little girl Maggie, and Jennifer and Marion driving down from New Jersey with their little guy Michael. We also had our friends that still live in the area including more of my grad school friends and a bunch of John's friends from CUA. It was obvious how much people care about us and our little bundle of joy.
Since this shower was a "couples shower", I got to share the fun with John. He invited a bunch of his friends to help celebrate and helped open gifts. It was nice sharing the experience with him. We got such nice gifts! Tons of books, sheets, lots of feeding and diapering essentials, bath stuff, and the car seat accessories. We are getting spoiled with all the presents!
